Lonestar RoundUp

Rod & Custom Quote

“What can be said about the Lonestar Round Up - Austin, Texas’ pride and joy of an annual “to do” - that hasn’t already been put in print, or uttered from one person to the next, for that matter? Nothing. It’s without a doubt one of the nation’s best hot rod and custom events."

Lonestar Roundup 2018

The Lonestar Round Up is a large outdoor car show in Austin, Texas. The Round Up includes vintage American hot rods and custom cars. In Austin style, the Round Up includes live music, great food trucks and life style features not found at any other show we have attended. As the Jalopy Journal says, “Simply put, it is the best damned car show in America. Period.”

Disappointment reigned this year, at least for me. We spent all day Friday trying to finish up a '29 Model A sedan. As always, we thought it would take a few minutes to button up some last minute items. Well, those items took all day and we skipped the Roundup, planning to go Saturday.

We got up Saturday morning to 40 degree temperatures! Being brave and optimistic, we headed for the show IN A CONVERTIBLE! The wind chill factor was 34 degrees when we arrived and it did nothing but fall a little. BRRR! There were lots of cars and lots of spectators but I didn't find very many 37 & 38s.

2018 Lonestar Roundup Cars

Here are just a few pics of 37 Chevy & 38 Chevrolets that I found at the 2018 LoneStar RoundUp. The weather did keep us from seeing all of the cars but overall its still a great show!

While people bring cars to the Roundup from all over the country, many are from Texas. This black 37 Chevy Sedan is a prime example. Very nicely done, clean and straight!

It turns out there are lots & lots of 37-38 Chevy Truck fans! I guess that shouldn't be a surprise. Here is a really cool 37 pickup built by Wood Collision Center in Mineola, TX. It has a Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel for motivation. I should be a stout hauler! Visit their website to see more of the construction under "Photos."

Savin’ money at the Roundup

Here is good looking 37 Chevy coupe. Like many shows, there are lots of people who drive their rod to the event and just park it prominently without paying the admission fee. This may be a little more common at the Roundup as the cost is $50 (and doesn't include a t-shirt).

Anyway, this is a nice looking 37. It has an interesting choice of chrome headlight buckets. Also appears to be tubbed-out. Nice.

I didn't get to look at it long, as I might have been run over by the 2000 other rods & customs!

Here are some quick pics of 37 Chevy & 38 Chevrolets represented at the 2016 LoneStar RoundUp. The weather did get us a bit this year. Saturday brought rain but it cleared off the afternoon was great.

Here is another great looking 37 Chevy coupe driven in from  Pflugerville, Texas. I really believe that this shade of red is by far the most popular for these cars. I haven't studied other specific models so maybe it is a common theme.

I've left out our pickup truck brethren until now. Here are two great examples from the RoundUp.

I didn't get to speak to the owner of this "survivor 38 Chevy coupe" from Bullard, TX (I think). I would like to know if it represents a true survivor or is a "faux" job. I left my site business card on their seat, so send me an email if this is your car. We want to know more!

The beautiful 38 coupe seems to belong to "MOM" based on the license plate. We have to say this is one lucky mom! The coupe is from White Oak, TX. Please contact us thru the "Contact" page if you are the lucky mom.

Here are a couple of 38 Chevrolet Sedans. The "race car" sedan is from Conroe, TX. I just barely got this shot of the blue sedan as he drove off. I gave him my card, so please send me an email about your great 38 sedan so that everyone can know more about your car!

This is Bill's Ice White coupe(a Cadillac color). Sadly, Bill recently past away. I'll leave the picture up as a tribute to Bill.

The weather reports for the 2015 run called for rain each day of the show, but we beat the odds. The rain never came and it turned out to be a great show...again!

This great looking 38 Chevy coupe drove over from Montgomery, Texas. Bill has owned this rod since 1985. He built it, drove it 80,000 miles and rebuilt it to the current Monterrey Red that you see here.

This is a very nice '38 Chevrolet Master Deluxe. Willie built it in Houston but had recently sold it. Both the builder and new owner were there at the show. Very nice, clean lines,

There were also a couple of projects in the swap meet. Depending on where you want to start, you could have a 37 two door Deluxe Sedan complete with patina for only $2500, or a very unique 38 coupe with an eyeball searing gold paint job. I don't remember the price of the coupe, but I think the respective owners took them back home at the end of the show.

Stay tuned. I think this was our 13th Roundup. We'll be back next year looking for 37 & 38 Chevys and enjoying what may be the best outdoor rod run in the country!
